In the morning, upon your arrival, you may choose to ride to Fansipan Peak – known as the “Roof of Indochina”. Fansipan is the highest mountain in Vietnam (3.147m high). In clear days, you can admire the panoramic view stretches across Vietnam, Laos, and China, with clouds floating below.  Visitors often celebrate reaching the peak by taking photos with the national flag on top of triangular marker. Besides offering stunning panoramic views, it is home to Buddhist temples, sacred statues, and unique architecture, making it an important cultural and spiritual site. Then you’ll visit the spiritual complex at the summit where you can see a giant Buddha statue with stone-carved dragon staircases. This is one of Vietnam’s largest seated Buddha statues, standing 21.5 meters tall, overlooking the misty mountains. Made from thousands of bronze plates, this impressive structure is a masterpiece of modern Buddhist architecture. Inside the statue, visitors can find a small meditation hall and an exhibition about Buddhist teachings.  Here many statues and pagodas are harmonious with nature, blending into the rocky cliffs and misty landscape. This is a perfect place for Buddhist culture and mediation as well as breathtaking landscapes for photographing.

OR

You may choose to visit Cat Cat – a charming ethnic village. Located just 2 km from Sapa Town, Cat Cat village is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved ethnic villages in northern Vietnam. It is home to the Black H’Mong people, who have lived in the region for centuries. With wooden houses, terraced rice fields, waterfalls, and traditional handicrafts, this village offers an authentic glimpse into the daily life and culture of the H’Mong people. The village is nestled in a deep valley surrounded by terraced rice fields and green mountains.  It’s great to follow a winding stone path past wooden houses, craft workshops, and water-powered mills and take breathtaking photo spots at every corner. Then, you may step inside a H’Mong wooden stilt house and see how the locals live. You’ll find handwoven textiles, corn wine-making tools, and traditional wooden furniture, and you might be invited to try homemade corn wine by the friendly locals.  The village is famous for its handmade brocade textiles, dyed with natural colors and embroidered with intricate patterns. You’ll see how the villagers weave fabrics, carve silver jewelry, and make traditional musical instruments, and buy handmade scarves, bags, or silver accessories as souvenirs. Further in the village, you’ll find a beautiful waterfall hidden in the heart of the village, and giant wooden water wheels, once used to grind rice nearby. At the village’s central square, you may have a chance to enjoy H’Mong folk dances and traditional music, watch Khèn (bamboo flute) performances, a unique part of H’Mong culture because it’s available during certain hours only.

In the afternoon, you’ll experience a traditional cooking class at a local homestay, learning to cook five-colored sticky rice – a famous dish of the Tay ethnic people. The five colors represent the five elements of life: red – Fire; yellow – Earth, green – Wood, purple – Water, and white – Metal. The colors come from natural plant dyes like leaves and flowers. Surely, you’ll enjoy your home-cooked meal with other local dishes like grilled pork or bamboo-tube rice with local ingredients. Such a cozy, authentic setting you’ll experience in a tranquil traditional village.

Today, we embark on an unforgettable journey into the heart of Vietnam’s rich heritage, indulging in its culinary treasures and experiencing the city’s vibrant pulse through an iconic “cyclo” tour.

Our adventure begins with a warm meet-and-greet as we join our Oriental Destination tour guide and fellow travelers on this fully escorted classic Vietnam experience.  We set out to explore Ba Dinh Square, a place of profound national significance, where Vietnam’s most solemn ceremonies unfold. Here, we stand before the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a tribute to the revered leader whose vision and legacy shaped the nation. Nearby, the One-Pillar Pagoda (dating back to 1049) rises like a poetic symbol of resilience, its delicate design reflecting Vietnamese spiritual and architectural mastery. Our historical journey continues at Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House, an elegant wooden retreat set amid tranquil gardens and a reflective fish pond, offering insight into the humble yet profound life of “Uncle Ho”. We then arrive at the Temple of Literature, a beautifully preserved relic of Vietnam’s Confucian past, where scholars once gathered in pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

Following a delicious Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant, we unveil a different facet of Hanoi’s charm—the city’s bustling streets and lively markets. We climb aboard an iconic “cyclo” (three-wheeled bicycle taxi) and embark on a mesmerizing ride through “the 36 Streets”—an enchanting network of narrow alleys and historic shop houses, each named after the merchandise traditionally sold there. The rhythmic pace of the cyclo tour allows us to absorb the sensory delights of Hanoi, as we pass by colorful storefronts, fragrant spice stalls, and artisans crafting their trade. Our ride brings us to Hoan Kiem Lake, where the city’s pulse slows to a tranquil rhythm. This serene oasis, steeped in local legend and folklore, offers a moment of reflection before we dive into the vibrancy of the Old Quarter. Enjoy your free time to explore its hidden treasures, from artisanal boutiques and charming cafes to temples tucked away in quiet courtyards.

As dusk descends, our culinary adventure begins. We’ll delve into the ancient streets of the Old Quarter, uncovering the flavors that define Vietnamese gastronomy. Prepare to tantalize your taste buds with an array of authentic street food delicacies: Steaming bowls of Pho;  Grilled Bun Cha – a  favorite of Anthony Bourdain, this smoky pork dish is served with vermicelli and fresh herbs; Crisp Banh Mi – a French-inspired baguette, stuffed with savory meats, pickled vegetables, and zesty sauces; Papaya Salad with Peanut & Dry Beef – a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and crunchy textures; Delicate Rice Paper Rolls – wrapped with coconut and molasses, bursting with freshness; or Vietnamese Sweet Soup & Sticky Rice Ice Cream – a unique dessert experience that balances indulgence with tradition.

We depart from your hotel and drive approximately 1.5 hours to Quang Phu Cau Village, a hidden gem in Northern Vietnam and a favorite among travel photographers. This traditional craft village is famed for its vibrant incense-making industry, where locals prepare, dye, and dry thousands of red-tipped incense sticks in symmetrical patterns. The striking contrast of red and gold hues, coupled with local artisans in traditional attire, provides extraordinary composition opportunities for cultural and portrait photography.

Following a delicious Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant, the Oriental Destination tour guide will take you to Bat Trang Pottery Village – a fantastic experience, especially if you enjoy culture, crafts and hands-on activities. The drive along the Red River is scenic, and you can feel the shift from the bustling city to a more peaceful countryside setting. Once you arrive, take a short walk through the narrow alleys of the village, where you can see artisans working and admire centuries-old architecture. The atmosphere is peaceful, with many shops displaying stunning ceramic products. Head to a pottery workshop, where a local artisan will guide you through the process of shaping clay on a potter’s wheel. You’ll get to mold, carve, and decorate your own pottery piece. Afterward, you can either have it fired (which may take time) or take it home as a raw clay souvenir. After the workshop, visit the Bat Trang Pottery Market, where you can browse an incredible variety of ceramic goods—delicate tea sets, colorful vases, decorative plates, and more. This is a great spot to pick up unique, handmade souvenirs. If time allows, check out the Bat Trang Ceramic Museum, an architectural gem that combines modern design with traditional ceramics.
